ISJ follows the English National Curriculum, using the UK year group system. Families relocating from other countries or educational systems can use this guide to understand which year group their child will enter at ISJ.

Important Notes
- Age cut-off date: ISJ uses September 1st as the age cut-off date, following UK practice. Children must turn the relevant age on or before September 1st to enter that year group.
- ISJ currently offers: Pre-Nursery through Year 8 (ages 2–13). The school plans to expand progressively to offer the full UK curriculum through Year 13.
- Placement decisions: While this table provides general guidance, final year group placement takes into account prior learning, assessment, and individual readiness. Our Admissions Team will work with families to determine the most appropriate year group for each child.
- Mid-year transfers: Children joining ISJ mid-year are placed based on their age, prior curriculum, and academic readiness.
Key Stage Overview
The UK system organizes education into Key Stages. Understanding these stages helps families see how ISJ's curriculum progresses:
- EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage): Ages 2–5 (Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Reception)
- Key Stage 1: Ages 5–7 (Years 1–2)
- Key Stage 2: Ages 7–11 (Years 3–6)
- Key Stage 3: Ages 11–14 (Years 7–9)
- Key Stage 4: Ages 14–16 (Years 10–11, GCSE years)
- Key Stage 5: Ages 16–18 (Years 12–13, A Level years / Sixth Form)
