Sports &

Adventure

At ISJ sport and adventure are essential parts of our pupils’ development. Through a rich physical education curriculum, a vibrant House system and an extensive co-curricular programme, every child has the opportunity to grow in confidence, health, leadership, and joy.

Physical Education, Games & Swimming

From the Foundation Stage through to Upper Primary, pupils experience a broad, balanced and inclusive PE curriculum. Lessons build movement skills, coordination, and teamwork while promoting lifelong habits of fitness and wellbeing.

Specialist teachers lead sessions in gymnastics, athletics, football, badminton, dance, and swimming. Pupils learn to compete with integrity and to value perseverance and effort as much as achievement. Regular swimming lessons in our on-site pool ensure that all pupils become confident, capable swimmers.

Physical challenge and adventure are powerful teachers of character. Through every match, climb, and performance, pupils practise resilience, humility, leadership, and compassion.

Sports and co-curricular life at ISJ are not about winning for its own sake, but about growth through participation and the confidence that comes from discovery, effort, and joy.

Sports and the House Programme

Competition is friendly, purposeful, and full of spirit. Pupils represent their Houses – Potter, Tolkien, Lewis, and Rowling – in a wide variety of events throughout the year, ranging from football, netball, and athletics to debating, spelling bees, and creative challenges.

Weekly fixtures, House tournaments, and inter-school competitions offer pupils the chance to showcase skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The friendly rivalry between Houses builds camaraderie, pride, and a shared sense of belonging.

The House system also provides meaningful leadership opportunities for older pupils, who help plan events, support their House teams, and mentor younger peers. Through this programme, becomes a vehicle for developing resilience, empathy, and respect, values that extend far beyond the playing field.

Our "Talent Trails" offer a structured yet adventurous way for pupils to find what they love. We reward commitment and curiosity across five key areas:

  • The Active & Creative Trails: From movement and sport to the arts, drama, and design.

  • The STEM & Strategy Trail: Where coding meets robotics and complex problem-solving.

  • The Communication & Culture Trail: Focusing on debate, languages, and global perspectives.

  • The Explore & Adventure Trail: Outdoor learning and community service.

Beyond the classroom, our students have access to specialized activities like creative writing and bouldering at IndoClimb Kemang. It’s about more than just skills; it’s about the journey of discovery.

Trips and Experiences

Throughout the year, pupils take part in trips that connect classroom learning to the wider world. Visits to museums, galleries, science centres, and community projects bring subjects to life.

Older pupils also participate in residential trips, combining academic enrichment with adventure and independence. These journeys strengthen friendships and bring ISJ’s values of teamwork, curiosity, and resilience vividly to life.
