Sports & Adventure
Building character, confidence, and teamwork through physical challenge and play
At ISJ, sport and physical activity are not simply about competition — they are essential to developing confident, resilient, and well-rounded young people. Every child has the opportunity to be active, to compete, and to discover what they love.
From swimming and gymnastics to football, athletics, and bouldering, pupils are challenged and supported across a wide range of physical pursuits. Our co-curricular programme, House competitions, and school trips extend learning well beyond the classroom.
Physical Education, Games & Swimming
From the Foundation Stage through to Upper Primary, pupils experience a broad, balanced and inclusive PE curriculum. Lessons build movement skills, coordination, and teamwork while promoting lifelong habits of fitness and wellbeing.
Specialist teachers lead sessions in gymnastics, athletics, football, badminton, dance, and swimming. Pupils learn to compete with integrity and to value perseverance and effort as much as achievement. Regular swimming lessons in our on-site pool ensure that all pupils become confident, capable swimmers.
Whether a child is naturally sporty or just finding their confidence, ISJ provides the encouragement, coaching, and variety to help every pupil enjoy being active.
"Clean facilities, friendly teachers, and a good balance of learning and play."
— ISJ Parent, 2025 SurveySports & the House Programme
Competition at ISJ is friendly, purposeful, and full of spirit. Every pupil belongs to one of four Houses, and throughout the year they compete in a wide variety of events — from football, netball, and athletics to debating, spelling bees, and creative challenges.
Weekly fixtures, House tournaments, and inter-school competitions give pupils the chance to showcase skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The House system also provides meaningful leadership opportunities for older pupils, who help plan events, support their teams, and mentor younger peers.
The Co-Curricular Programme
Beyond the classroom, our pupils have access to over 30 clubs and activities each term. Our "Talent Trails" offer a structured yet adventurous way for children to find what they love, rewarding commitment and curiosity across five key areas.
Specialist clubs include gymnastics, bouldering at IndoClimb Kemang, K-Pop dance, and competitive swimming squads. Pupils work towards Talent Trails Awards — from Bronze (3 trails) through to Platinum (all 5 trails plus sustained commitment or leadership).
Inter-school fixtures in football, swimming, and athletics give pupils the chance to represent ISJ and develop their competitive skills in a supportive environment.
Trips & Experiences
Throughout the year, pupils take part in trips that connect classroom learning to the wider world. Visits to museums, galleries, science centres, and community projects bring subjects to life and spark curiosity beyond the school gates.
Older pupils also participate in residential trips, combining academic enrichment with adventure and independence. These journeys strengthen friendships and bring ISJ's values of teamwork, curiosity, and resilience vividly to life.
