Staff

  • Yes. ISJ places safeguarding at the centre of all employment practices. All staff are required to provide criminal background checks from all countries in which they have lived and worked as adults. Comprehensive reference checks are conducted, and all staff adhere to a strict code of conduct and child safeguarding policy. Staff receive regular safeguarding training and are expected to report any concerns immediately.

  • Teachers hold recognised teaching qualifications from accredited institutions, alongside a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Many staff also hold postgraduate qualifications. Teachers are trained and experienced in delivering the English National Curriculum and related assessment frameworks. They are expert educators from some of the UK’s best independent schools, and elite international schools.

  • ISJ seeks experienced, reflective and collaborative teachers who are committed to high academic standards and child wellbeing. We value professionalism, adaptability and a willingness to engage in continuous professional development. Staff are expected to contribute positively to the wider school community.

Teaching & Learning

  • Yes. ISJ offers EAL support to students who require assistance accessing the curriculum in English. Support is provided where resources allow, and admissions decisions take into account the language profile of each year group.

  • ISJ provides learning support within defined parameters. Support is delivered through differentiated classroom practice and targeted interventions. Admissions decisions consider the school’s capacity to meet a child’s needs alongside cohort balance.

Daily School Life

  • Many ISJ families live in South Jakarta, particularly around Pondok Indah and surrounding areas. School transport options are available for families who require them, alongside private transport arrangements.

  • ISJ is an English-medium school. Students also study Bahasa Indonesia and Chinese, and engage with local culture as part of the curriculum. Home-language learning is supported informally by families outside the school programme.

Admissions Process

Facilities are designed to support both academic learning and physical development within a well-organised urban setting.

  • No. While English is the school’s primary language of communication, ISJ makes every effort to support families where English is not a parent’s first language. The school works pragmatically and sensitively to facilitate clear communication and ensure parents are able to engage with school life.

  • Admissions decisions are based on suitability, cohort balance and seat availability. ISJ does not use a numbered waitlist, but applications may be held pending availability.

  • Assessment requirements vary by age and individual circumstances. Early years admissions involve informal observations, while older students may be assessed where appropriate.

  • Alternative documentation, such as teacher references or school forms, may be accepted depending on the year group. The Admissions Team will advise.

Fees and Finance

  • Yes. ISJ offers a range of bursaries and scholarships, supported by The Schools Trust, to help make a British international education more accessible. These include bursaries for expatriate families to support educational continuity, global access bursaries to encourage international diversity, and means-tested scholarships for Indonesian pupils demonstrating high academic potential.
