Bursaries for Expat Families in Jakarta

Supporting educational continuity for families relocating from the UK, Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand

We understand the challenges that come with relocation. This bursary helps native English-speaking families maintain continuity in their child’s independent school education, ensuring a smooth transition into life at our British international school in Jakarta.

For pupils from countries around the world β€” including Japan, Korea, India, Brazil, China, and many others β€” these awards provide access to an ISJ education and encourage a vibrant, international pupil population. This pathway supports our mission to bring together children of many nationalities in a warm and ambitious school environment.

How to Apply

Applications for bursaries and scholarships are reviewed by the Bursary Committee and handled in confidence. Funds and places are limited each year, so we encourage families to apply early.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply for a bursary or scholarship at ISJ?
Pathways are available for expatriate families who could not otherwise afford an ISJ education. A dedicated scholarship supports Indonesian pupils with high potential. In addition, bursary support is available for current ISJ families facing serious financial difficulties.
How much financial support is available?
Support levels vary by pathway and family circumstances. The Indonesian Scholarship may award up to 100% fee relief. All awards are determined after a confidential review by the Bursary Committee.
Is the application process confidential?
Yes. All applications are handled in confidence and reviewed discreetly by the Bursary Committee.
What documentation will we need to provide?
Documentation typically includes recent income statements and supporting evidence of circumstances. For the Indonesian Scholarship, pupils must also sit tests for academic potential as part of the selection process.
Are awards renewed each year?
Awards are reviewed annually. Expatriate families should normally expect a similar level of support during their time at school. For existing ISJ families, bursaries are usually temporary, providing support through periods of financial difficulty. Scholars can normally expect support to continue throughout their time at ISJ, subject to satisfactory progress and engagement with school life.
When should applications be submitted?
Applications are considered year-round, but early submission is strongly advised due to limited funds.
Do bursaries cover extras (uniforms, trips, activities)?
Bursaries and scholarships apply to tuition fees only. Costs such as uniforms, trips, and activities are not covered.
