The Arts.

Through music, dance, art and drama the children mature physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively, discovering new talents and reaching high standards.

The Creative Arts are integral to the curriculum and the cultural life of the school.

From the very start of their ISJ journey, the children are expertly taught by specialists who are passionate about their subjects. Our bright and spacious art studio, indoor gymnasium and suite of music rooms provide an inspiring and enriching environment for them to explore their creativity. In every year group our children develop confidence in performance, enjoying regular opportunities to participate in festivals, concerts, shows and proms.

Art and Design.

The Visual Arts curriculum is seen as a vital aspect of our children’s cognitive and creative development. Much of their work in the art studio is linked to other areas of the curriculum, enriching their experience through the creative exploration of history, religion, culture and science.

Music

Taught from their very first day, our children not only appreciate the joy of listening to and making music, they also grow in confidence and motivation through the development of high level skills in creative problem solving, discipline, team-work and risk taking.

Pupils are exposed to different styles of music, from whole class ukulele lessons and African drumming, to Indonesian Gamelan music.

Individual instrumental music lessons are available for pupils in a range of instruments each week and the children are encouraged to draw on this experience during their class music lessons.

Design and Technology

Children have the opportunity to design and make functional products. Their creativity and capacity for innovation is nurtured through design and through the exploration of the designed world in which we all live and work.

The syllabus is designed to enable every child to develop skills, knowledge and understanding. Learning is carefully sequenced to ensure progression, and to make full use of cross-curricular links. The children develop their creative ideas through collaboration, discussion, handling diverse materials and where appropriate, drawing and recording.
